The chap in questionBoris to stand for Mayor!

By golly yes, Boris Johnson looks likely to be the Conservative candidate for the London Mayoral Elections. This is great news, as if he can reign in his at times foolish ways a tad, there may actually be a competition in the offing. Boris surely has the ability to be a great mayor and rid us of Ken. BUT, until a little more is heard from Boris it is too soon to be totally sure.

blank blank

Sense (in the surprising shape of Ruth Kelly) has descended on fevered skyscraper building.

Ruth Kelly has called in the Walkie Talkie tower to public enquiry. This almost approved chunk is a great distance from the city tower cluster and far too close to the Thames. It is also feared it would also harm views of the Tower of London and possibly St Paul's. It is not a bad design, but such a bulky tall thing should NEVER be built on this spot. Hopefully, following this 18 month enquiry, it will be cancelled.

It is number 1 in the picture below. Also the Minerva tower, to the right below, is hopefully going to be much, much lower, leaving the central cluster as a sensible attractive grouping. I hope.

Future London

Ugly inappropriate towerYet another monstrosity proposed in yet another area.
An extraordinarily grotesque proposal for yet another megalith that is Beetham's Blackfriar's Tower. This one is right by the Thames on Blackfriars Road. Skyscrapers work in clusters, not in this haphazard planless manner. Many of these towers are stabbed right in to the heart of London. Aggressive thoughtless actions. Fight it, Fight them!
Tate Modern Goes Large, and Glassy
Tate Modern plans to expand by plonking a jaggedy glass pyramid at its rear. Unfortunately it seems little of this space is for exhibiting art (unless it in turn releases space in the main building) and the design perhaps damages the current building's impact. The jury is out. More
